Nature Play

Nature Play

Children are stimulated by the outdoors and typically experience, over time, an increase in self-belief, confidence, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication, problem-solving skills and emotional well-being.

Forest School sets learning in a different context for children where they can undertake a range of practical activities and carry out small achievable tasks.

Every day is a Forest School day at Tiny Tots. Our qualified Forest School teacher, Hollie leads the sessions for our babies, toddlers and Pre-School children in the woodland area. Our staff ensure that the skills that children learn at Forest School are transferred into the nursery garden for children to continue to explore, practise, extend and embed into their learning.

Children gain skills and confidence through a range of activities;

  • Den Building – Encourages teamwork, manipulation of materials and use of tools.

  • Fire – Children gain an awareness of fire safety. There are lots of opportunities to build their own fires and to cook using the fire.

  • Nature Arts and Crafts – Children use a variety of natural resources within their artwork.

  • Woodland Walks – Enables the children to have a deeper appreciation of the woodland environment and how to care for and respect the habitat.

Daily Structure

Where possible, on a Forest School day, children spend the whole of their day in the woodland, usually between the times of 9.30am and 3.30pm. Snack and lunch is provided at the woods so that children have no need to return to nursery. When babies and toddlers need to sleep, the yurt offers the perfect tranquil environment.
